Biography

Irene Andia Biraro is an Internal Medicine Physician with expertise in infectious diseases and immunology. She has over 22 years of research experience with a special interest in the epidemiological, clinical and immunological interactions between tuberculosis (TB) infection and its co-infections/co-morbiditiesHer research focuses on understanding the protective immune responses in TB, the factors that could be associated with susceptibility to TB infection, the immune diagnosis of TB infection spectrum, the effects of chemo-prophylaxis, and the sustained pre-mature TB related mortality in the Sub-Saharan setting. Irene Andia Biraro is passionate about medical education, in particular the impact of mentorship and quality improvement in post graduate training. Irene Andia Biraro is also one of the founding members of the East Central and Southern African College of Physicians.
