Biography

John Odero Ong’ech has worked in the field of women and Reproductive health for over 30 years. He has post graduate trainings in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Public Health (International Health), Research and Leadership. He is a Chief Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Lecturer (Honorary), University of Nairobi School of Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology department; Research Scientist at Kenyatta National Hospital.

He is the Safaricom Company Health Advisor. He has served as chairman and Director of several Boards and NGO’s in Kenya.

He previously served as the Technical and Research Director at Elizabeth Glaser Peadiatrics Aids Foundation in Kenya. He has provided consultancy in the area of HIV and women across many countries in Africa. He has been a consultant for Intrahealth International, USAID, CDC, UNICEF, UNAIDS, WHO and several Governments in the region.

He has several peer reviewed International publications on HIV, women and Reproductive Health. He has made several presentations in internationals conferences on HIV and women Health.

He initiated HIV Intrapartum testing in Kenya which was the first in Africa, earning him a grand prize award by WHO on Implementing Best practices initiative in Reproductive Health in Africa. He is a recipient of grand leadership award by the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Kenya on Improving women health care in Kenya.

 He is a recipient of several other awards and honors like the manager of the year award by Kenya Institute of Management, Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Alumni impact award by Institute of International Education (IIE) in Washington DC, USA and USA Embassy, Kenya Alumni of the month recognition.

He is affiliated to several local and International Professional Organizations and Institutions.
