Biography

Dr. José Moltó (1972, MD, PhD) is consultant physician and senior researcher in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol (HUGTiP) and Fundació Lluita contra les Infeccions (FLS), in Badalona, Spain. He obtained his PhD focused on clinical pharmacology of antiretroviral drugs. Specifically, Dr Moltó was trained on population pharmacokinetic modelling. Dr Moltó has also collaborated to assess of pharmacokinetics of antiretrovirals in special populations (people with liver or end-stage renal disease, pregnant women), and has been active in studying potential drug interactions between antiretrovirals and other drugs frequently used among people with HIV.

More recently, Dr. Moltó has led and/or contributed to clinical trials on potential HIV cure strategies, including the use of therapeutic vaccines alone or in combination with viral latency reactivators. More recently, Dr Moltó has started a new area of research repurposing small molecules approved for other diseases to interfere with HIV persistence.
