Eugenia Negredo, MD, PhD

Biography

Eugénia Negredo completed the specialty of Internal Medicine at the Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, Spain, in 1998. She received her PhD. in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in 2002.

Since 1999, Dr. Negredo works as a physician in the HIV Unit of Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona, Barcelona. She is in charge of a large number of HIV-infected patients. As well, she is the responsible for a research group involved in the study of toxicities and complications of antiretroviral drugs. Her research is focused on the epidemiology, pathogenesis and treatment of different toxicities such as dyslipidemia, lipodystrophy syndrome, nephrotoxicity and abnormalities in bone metabolism. Other research fields are the study of genetic variants associated with toxicities, apoptosis and immune activation and inflammation.

Currently, she is a teacher in the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in a master about HIV infection. She has directed the thesis of 2 PhD students, and currently, she is directing a third.

Dr. Negredo is also a member of several scientific societies and has published extensively in different medical journals including CID, JID, JAIDS, AIDS Patient Care STD, HIV Clinical Trials, etc.
