HIV Prevention Review Meeting 2021

The successfulĀ HIV Prevention Review Meeting 2021 took place as a virtual meetingĀ on 2 June 2021. The Program Directors would like to thank all invited speakers and participants for their contribution to this meeting! The next edition of this series, HIV Prevention Summit 2021 will take place from 1 - 2 December. For more information, please visit here:Ā https://academicmedicaleducation.com/hiv-prevention-summit-2021Ā

Welcome

The global HIV epidemic continues to present a significant health and economic burden for nearly 38 million infected people worldwide. Despite notable progress to contain the virus spread, and a reduction of nearly 40% in new infections in the last two decades, 1.7 million new cases were reported worldwide last year alone. This is particularly of concern in certain regions, where the number of new infections has been growing rapidly. In Eastern Europe, for instance, it has grown almost 50% per year since 2010.

HIV prevention is in the midst of an exciting chapter, with several different drugs and formulations being investigated or already available to prevent HIV acquisition. This wealth of new data and knowledge, being present at the major conferences, comes hand-in-hand with a need to review the importance of these findings and their implications for the implementation of prevention programs. The Prevention 2021 review meeting aims at bridging this gap to consolidate the implications of the new dataĀ presented at the last conferences, and thus extrapolates the impact of the latest emerging data.
