The EACCME-accredited Online Meeting Highlights series is an educational resource that provides highlights from the International Workshop on HIV Pediatrics in a clear and concise manner for healthcare professionals who occasionally treat people living with HIV.

All modules can be followed independently and at your own pace.

Complete this entire episode to equip yourself with the knowledge to address the specific challenges in your care and treatment of people living with HIV.

After following this educational series, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology of the pediatric HIV epidemic and the latest recommendations for pediatric and adolescent HIV treatment.

  • Describe the challenges and barriers faced by adolescents affected by and living with HIV, and strategies to improve adolescent health services, implementation of programs, and research.

  • Define new treatment options available for HIV patients with limited treatment options, including recently presented clinical trials, and how best to integrate these new drugs into optimal combination regimens

The program is aimed at clinicians from various specialties who occasionally treat people who live with HIV, such as primary care physicians, family doctors, OBGYN, transgender healthcare clinicians, adolescent medicine professionals, and preventive medicine professionals, as well as public health workers and researchers engaged in HIV-related disciplines at varying degrees.

The Online Meeting Highlights 2023 | HIV & Pediatrics made available on our virtual platform
and organized by Virology Education & Academic Medical Education is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists.

Only those e-learning materials that are displayed on the UEMS-EACCME® website have formally been accredited.

Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Who Should Attend?
• Primary: Clinicians from various specialties who occasionally treat people living with HIV but do not attend HIV-focused meetings such as primary care physicians, family doctors, OBGYN, transgender healthcare clinicians, adolescent medicine professionals, and preventive medicine professionals.
• Secondary: Public health workers and researchers engaged in HIV-related disciplines at varying degrees.
Meeting Objectives
This program aims to:
• Educate HCPs of varying degrees of experience and knowledge on the most recent and relevant HIV-related clinical findings.
• Address existing knowledge gaps of healthcare professionals in HIV care and ultimately improve the quality of life for people living with HIV.
• Provide accurate and continuous needs assessments among a broad audience of HCPs by region, level of education, and experience in order to evaluate and improve our educational program to match the needs identified by the targeted audience.
Learning Objectives
After following this educational series, participants will be able to:
• Describe the epidemiology of the pediatric HIV epidemic and the latest recommendations for pediatric and adolescent HIV treatment.
• Describe the challenges and barriers faced by pediatrics affected by and living with HIV, and strategies to improve pediatric health services, implementation of programs, and research.
• Define new treatment options available for pediatric patients living with HIV, including recently presented clinical trials, and how best to integrate these new drugs into optimal combination regimens.
Practical Information 
Module 1 - Learning Objectives
After following this module, participants will be able to:
• Describe the current epidemiology of HIV infection among children
• Define approaches to the recognition and treatment of Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) in children and adolescents
• Identify the gaps and solutions for optimizing early infant HIV diagnostic cascade
• Summarize current and future approaches to the postnatal HIV prophylaxis
Module 2 - Learning Objectives
After following this module, participants will be able to:
• Recognize the potential for the use of long-acting ART in the management of HIV in adolescents
• Distinguish challenges and opportunities for using LA ARVs for the prevention of perinatal HIV
• Comprehend key considerations for prevention and treatment of paediatric TB
• Recognize the challenges of polypharmacy in children with opportunistic infection or co-infection
Module 3 - Learning Objectives
After following this module, participants will be able to:
• Describe the research advances in HIV vaccines for prevention and treatment
• Analyse the impact of mental health on the adolescent populations
• Identify specific approaches for optimizing care for paediatric and adolescent populations living with HIV
• Recognize the potential for the use of long-acting ART in the management of HIV in adolescents
