Biography

Melikhaya Soboyisi is a South African public health practitioner and Project Manager with experience in HIV prevention, Community-led monitoring, research and programme implementation. At NACOSA, he leads the Community Monitoring, Evaluation and Transformation (COMET) project funded by the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC), using Community-led monitoring to strengthen accountability, improve the quality of health services and ensure that community experiences inform health programming and decision-making.

He also leads the Brothers for Prevention programme in Gauteng funded by the VIIV Momentum grant, supporting adolescent boys and young men through HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, mental health and broader wellbeing interventions.

His work is grounded in health equity and human rights, with a particular interest in ensuring that key and priority populations, including people living with HIV, LGBTQ+ communities, sex workers, people who use drugs and young people, can access respectful, stigma-free and responsive health services.

Melikhaya previously worked with the University of the Witwatersrand’s Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit. He holds an MSc in Medicine from Wits, complemented by training in Public Health and HIV Management.
