Biography

Dr Portia Motsoeneng is a Medical Device and In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Registration Officer at the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA). She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Cape Town.

Dr Motsoeneng is an experienced medical research scientist with a strong background in clinical trials, medical device regulation, regulatory system strengthening, and public health. Her professional expertise encompasses medical device and IVD registration, clinical trial regulation, regulatory policy, and compliance.

She has a particular interest and demonstrated strength in policy development, policy implementation, and regulatory compliance. Through her work, she contributes to strengthening regulatory frameworks and systems that support the safety, quality, and performance of medical devices and IVDs while facilitating access to safe and effective health technologies.

Dr Motsoeneng also participates in the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF) working groups, contributing to international regulatory harmonisation and the development of globally aligned approaches to medical device regulation.
