Abel Nkolo

Biography

Dr. Abel Nkolo is a medical doctor and public health leader with more than 25 years of experience in clinical and public health program implementation. He currently works as Chief of Party with Joint Clinical Research Centre in Uganda leading the DOS supported project LPHS - North and Southwest. Previously he has worked with several organizations including WHO, URC, MSH, KNCV, Government of Uganda, including other NTPs of Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nkolo has held high-impact leadership roles, most notably as the Chief of Party for the USAID/Defeat TB Project (2017–2022). Under his guidance, the project improved TB case notifications from 61% to over 102% and improved treatment success rates from 70% to 90%.

He previously served as the Country Advisor for TB at WHO in Uganda, where he rolled out the global End TB Strategy.

Dr. Nkolo’s PhD research focused on the complexities of multimorbidity and mortality among TB/HIV patients. Dr. Nkolo’s expertise spans HIV and TB, health systems strengthening, and continuous quality improvement.
