Biography

Ahmed Cordie, MD, is a Consultant Physician and Assistant Professor at the Department of Endemic Medicine, Cairo University Hospitals. He is the Founder of the Kasr Al-Aini HIV and Viral Hepatitis Fighting Group and serves as the Coordinator for the Supreme Council of University Hospitals (SCU) Committee for Medical Virology and Blood-borne Pathogens. Previously, he served as the Chief of the HCV/HIV Co-infection Program at the National Committee for Combating Viral Hepatitis (NCCVH).

He also coordinated the first nurse-led HIV testing and counseling unit at Cairo University, utilizing point-of-care testing to streamline linkage to care.

His research focuses on HIV/MASLD interplay, viral hepatitis epidemiology, and non-invasive tests (NITs) for hepatic fibrosis. Dr. Cordie provided key evidence for the safety of locally manufactured generic direct-acting antivirals, leading to Egypt’s first national guidelines for HIV/viral hepatitis co-infection. Since 2017, his team has published over 35 international papers and presented 50+ abstracts at global scientific meetings, advancing the understanding of metabolic health and liver disease among people living with HIV (PLHIV) across the MENA region.
