Biography

Dr. Anchalee Avihingsanon, MD, PhD, is a specialist in HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases with over 20 years of experience in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis research in resource-limited settings. She currently serves as the Director of HIVNAT, a non-profit clinical research organization based in Bangkok, Thailand, at the Thai Red Cross AIDS and Infectious Diseases Research Centre. She also leads the Centre’s Clinical Research Site (site 31802) within the global NIH-supported Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally (ACTG) network.

Dr. Avihingsanon oversees and conducts multicenter clinical trials at national, regional, and international levels, with a focus on HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and emerging infections such as COVID-19 and mpox. In Thailand, she plays an important advisory role in national health policy, serving on multiple committees, including those responsible for implementing antiretroviral therapy under the Universal Health Coverage scheme, as well as national working groups on ART, hepatitis, HIV-TB collaboration, and TB prevention.

In addition to her research and policy work, Dr. Avihingsanon is actively involved in academic mentorship as a supervisor and external examiner for PhD students both in Thailand and internationally. She has authored more than 300 scientific publications.
