Ava Avalos is an HIV specialist physician and HIV Technical Advisor to the Botswana Ministry of Health. In addition to clinical care at Princess Marina Hospital Infectious Disease Care Clinic, she focuses her medical research on optimizing anti-retroviral treatment, preventing ART failure and the development of ART drug resistance. She currently leads the National Advanced HIV Care Initiative, is a Research Associate of the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership and directs Careena Centre for Health in Gaborone - providing advanced HIV care and mental health services to the community. She has been living and working in Botswana for the past 25 years. She loves dancing, dogs and yoga.
