Biography

Carolyn Wester, MD, MPH, serves as the Director of the Division of Viral Hepatitis in the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) within the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Wester has over 25 years of public health and clinical research experience focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of viral hepatitis, HIV, and STIs in the U.S. and internationally. In her current role, she provides national leadership in viral hepatitis strategic planning; monitoring viral hepatitis disease trends; developing and promoting national viral hepatitis testing and vaccination guidelines; advancing viral hepatitis research and public health practices; engaging federal, state, and community partners to advance viral hepatitis elimination; and detecting and responding to viral hepatitis outbreaks. Dr. Wester received her Medical Degree from Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
