Biography

Dr Cassandra Fairhead, MBBS, MRCP, is an Infectious Diseases Academic Clinical Fellow based at University College London Hospital and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is interested in the intersections between infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health and health inclusion, in particular access to healthcare for socially marginalised groups. As a Research Consultant at Metavirology, Volunteer Research Doctor at Medical Action Myanmar and academic clinician in the UK her work has focused on community-based sexually transmitted infection diagnosis for key populations; equity challenges linked to blood-borne virus screening; access to HPV vaccination and intermittent antiretroviral therapy as a strategy to maintain HIV treatment access in funding crises. She is increasingly interested in access to medicines and her recent work has focused on the cost-of-production of generic long-acting PrEP and the role of licencing in supporting global affordable access to HIV prevention and treatment.
