Biography
Dr. Charles Muiruri is a health services researcher and implementation scientist affiliated with Duke University, where he serves in a leadership role within the Duke Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Health Services Research Scientific Working Group. Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, his background informs a research agenda advancing equity focused HIV science in resource limited health system settings.
His research spans across the HIV care continuum with a focus on HIV related comorbidities especially cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disorders among people with HIV, emphasizing health preference methods to improve translation into routine care. A core component of his portfolio includes long standing collaborations in East Africa, particularly Tanzania, focused on strengthening HIV service delivery and research capacity.
Dr. Muiruri’s research is supported by the NIH and other funders, and published in peer reviewed journals spanning HIV, health services research, and implementation science. He is committed to producing relevant HIV research that informs policy and sustainable health system improvement.
