Central Chest Institute Of Thailand
Dr.Charoen Chuchottaworn is presently a Senior Medical Expert at Central Chest Institute of Thailand (CCIT), a tertiary referral institute for chest diseases under Ministry of Public Health. He graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Chiangmai University in 1982 and worked as TB clinician since then. In 1984, he received a grant from JICA to study TB epidemiology at Research Institute of Tubeculosis, Japan Antituberculosis Association, Kiyose and study grant from Canadian Thoracic Society to study Mycobacteriology at Center for Disease Control, Laboratory, Ottawa, Canada in 1989. He also got Diplomate Thai Board of Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine and Critical Care. He was former head of Department of Pathology, Respiratory intensive care and Respiratory Medicine, Central Chest Institute of Thailand. He published the first study of tuberculosis and HIV infection in Thai patients since 1990. Most of his research works involved in drug resistant organisms especially tuberculosis and laboratory technologies for rapid diagnosis of drug resistant tuberculosis. CCIT is the national referral centre for treatment of MDR/XDR-TB. He was also committee member who involved in TB and HIV infection clinical practice guideline (CPG) development in Thailand for more than 20 years. For clinical trials, Dr.Charoen served as national principle investigator of TMC-C208 and TMC-C209 (Bedaquiline) study, REMox study and STAND (Pretomanid ) study. Currently he is member National Committee for Drug Resistant Tububerculosis Management, Ministry of Public Health.
