Biography

Christine Stegling is Director of Management and Partnerships at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). She previously served as Deputy Executive Director of the Policy, Advocacy and Knowledge Branch and as a United Nations Assistant Secretary-General until the end of 2025.

Before joining UNAIDS in 2023, Ms Stegling was Executive Director of Frontline AIDS. She also led the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition and the Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA).

With extensive experience across global, regional and country levels, Ms Stegling is a recognized leader in HIV policy and advocacy. Her work has contributed to expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment, advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights, and supporting marginalized communities through community-led responses. She is known for driving initiatives that influence policy, legal and funding environments to accelerate progress towards ending AIDS.

Ms Stegling holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from SOAS, University of London, and previously chaired the Board of Trustees of the AIDS Rights Alliance for Southern Africa.
