Biography
Daniel Were, PhD, is the Project Director of the Jhpiego led Bridge to Scale (‘Jilinde’) project that is translating oral Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) from research and demonstration projects into a large-scale public health response in Kenya. He is also Jhpiego’s regional PrEP Advisor for sub-Saharan Africa.
Daniel has over fifteen years’ experience designing, implementing and evaluating HIV prevention interventions among underserved and marginalized populations including Key Populations, adolescents and youth. Currently, he is a principal investigator in two PrEP implementation science research studies in Kenya.
Daniel is a member of the Kenya national PrEP and Key Populations technical working groups. In addition, he serves as a member of the International Partnership for Microbicides ‘Dapivirine Ring’ market access and project advisory committees. Daniel is also a member of the core advisory board of the Biomedical Prevention Implementation Collaborative (BioPIC) that is developing a global introduction strategy for Cabotegravir long-acting injectable (CAB-LA).
