Biography

Dr, Eleanor Namusoke Magongo is a Paediatrician and Child Health Specialist with 20 years of experience leading pediatrics and adolescent HIV programs in Uganda. She has worked at the Ministry of Health, STI/AIDS Control Program for the last 10 years, where she leads the national program for children and adolescents living with HIV in Uganda

Dr. Magongo is the Founding Director of the “Supporting Translation of Research and Evidence-based Intervention into Policy and Practice (STREPP) for impactful and sustainable child and adolescent health programs.” STREPP organizes two Paediatrics HIV meetings for the African continent. The Paediatrics and Adolescent HIV Learning Collaborative for Africa (PAHLCA) and the International Paediatrics HIV/AIDS Symposium for Africa ( IPHASA, www.strepp.org).

Dr Magongo is an implementation research scientist and the Principal Investigator of the Uganda Pediatrics ART (UP-ART) cohort in Uganda, an observational cohort of close to 2000 children and adolescents living with HIV. Her research focuses on early identification, access, and optimized Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART), viral load suppression, HIV drug resistance, service delivery, and care models for children and adolescents living with HIV.

Dr. Magongo serves on several professional and advisory groups like the global PEPFAR Scientific Advisory Board, WHO Adolescent HIV Service Delivery Technical Working Group (ASWG), Child Survival Working Group (CSWG,) and WHO HIVReSNet Steering Group. She is an alumnus of the HIGH-IRI Implementation Science Fellowship, faculty of the Afri-HIGH IRI and a member of the Adolescent HIV Prevention and Treatment Implementation Science Alliance (AHISA) and the PENTA ID Network.
