Biography

Professor Eric Chow is an STI epidemiologist based at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre and Monash University. He heads the Health Data Management and Biostatistics Unit and co-leads the HIV/STI Clinical Trials Unit. His research focuses on improving the prevention, diagnosis, and control of STIs, with particular interests in male HPV vaccination, gonorrhoea transmission dynamics, doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP), and the application of digital and AI tools in sexual health.

He has recently completed the DoxyAWARE study in Australia and is currently leading the DoxyAsia study across 16 countries and regions in Asia. Together, these studies examine awareness, uptake, safety, and clinical practices related to doxyPEP across diverse healthcare settings. He is also leading an international study evaluating AI-assisted decision support for the diagnosis of anogenital skin conditions.

He was named Australia’s top researcher in the field of Sex & Sexuality (2024). He is President of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Research (ISSTDR) and serves on the executive board of the Australasian Sexual and Reproductive Health Alliance (ASRHA). Through these roles, he is actively involved in global scientific leadership and capacity building.
