Biography
Huldrych Günthard serves as a senior attending physician, the Vice Clinic Director and Head of HIV laboratory in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiology at the University Hospital Zurich. He completed his medical and doctoral degrees from the University of Zurich in 1990 and 1993 and is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. He continued his training in infectious diseases at UCSD San Diego as a post doctoral fellow. He is an active member with the HIV research community, acted as president and principal investigator for the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (2012_2024), as committee member for the conference on retroviruses and opportunistic infections (CROI), and is member of Swissmedics’s Human Medicines Expert Committee, and many more. His research interests have focused on primary HIV infection and transmission including phylogenetics, antiretroviral therapy and emergence of resistance, the latent reservoir and low level replication and evolution of bnAbs. He has authored many papers published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals including Nature, Science, Nature Medicine, JAMA , The Lancet HIV, Clinical Infectious Diseases, etc. and has been the recipient of many prestigious grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation and NIH.
