Biography

Ismael Katjitae is Chairperson of the National Technical Advisory Committee of the HIV/AIDS response in Namibia. He was a role-player participating in spearheading the country’s National Response on HIV and AIDS, focusing on training health workers about the national HIV/AIDS guidelines. He was involved in developing and implementing various national and international guidelines on HIV and AIDS. As Consultant Physician at the Namibia Ministry of Health and Social Services, he is tasked with training students and interns, while providing guidance and support to medical officers. He serves on the educational committee of the Health Professions Council of Namibia and is a Board Member of the Namibian HIV Clinical Society. He was a member of the Steering Committee of the School of Medicine at the University of Namibia (UNAM) that established the School of Medicine for which he remains involved in student clinical training. He participated in the setting up of the National Public Cardiac Unit in Windhoek. Physician to the former President, Hon. Hifikepunye Pohamba, Dr. Katjitae is a medical consultant at Fresenius Medical Care – Windhoek Kidney & Dialysis Centre. He trains private practitioners on best practices concerning HIV and AIDS, as well as other topical issues in Internal Medicine.
