Biography
Ivan Vujkovic-Cvijin, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Divisions of Biomedical Science, Gastroenterology, and the F. Widjaja Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Vujkovic-Cvijin studies how human immune-related diseases – including inflammatory bowel disease, HIV-associated inflammatory comorbidities, cancer immunotherapy, and autoinflammatory conditions – are shaped by microbes that inhabit the human gut. Because of the tremendous diversity of this microbial community, the Vujkovic-Cvijin lab leverages high-throughput omics approaches and novel experimental tools to quantify the interactions between gut microbes and host immune function. His work has explored the role of gut bacteria in HIV disease progression and has helped define best practices for the investigation of the gut microbiota across human diseases. Dr. Vujkovic-Cvijin's research group uses microbiology, immunology, ecology, and data science to carry out translational science with the end-goal of impacting human health through harnessing the host-microbiota relationship.
