Biography

Prof. Julio Rakotonirina is the Director of Health and Humanitarian Affairs at the African Union Commission since October 2022. Previously, Prof. Julio was based in Madagascar, where he progressed within the healthcare system, from Medical Doctor in a Primary Health Center to Director of a University Hospital. In 2019-2020, he served as Madagascar's Minister of Public Health. Over the course of more than 25 years, he has gained expertise in African countries, working as an Expert-consultant, Physician, Public Health Specialist (PhD), Epidemiology Full Professor, and Continental Policy Designer in Health and Humanitarian Affairs.

As a Researcher, he has conducted research and evaluations in collaboration with international co-authors and has published scientific articles.
