• SUPERVISION OF GRADUATE STUDENTS AND POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS Dr. Altfeld has served as mentor for a large number of Master students, PhD students, Medical Thesis students and Postdocs since joining faculty in 2001. He was a faculty member of the Harvard Medical School Immunology Graduate Program from 2006-2016, and served on their student selection committee. From 2011-2013 he was also the Principal Investigator and Director of the Harvard University HIV Postdoctoral Training grant (T32) that provided research fellowships to Postdocs training at HMS-affiliated research laboratories. Dr. Altfeld has been highly committed to the training of young scientist, and was recognized for his efforts by HMS with the 2006 Young Mentor Award. Several postdoctoral fellows that trained with Dr. Altfeld now hold faculty positions at Harvard Medical School, including one Full Professor (Galit Alter), one Associate Professors (Xu Yu) and two Assistant Professors (Mathias Lichterfeld, Stephanie Jost), or hold faculty positions at international universities, including Hendrik Streeck (Full Professor, University of Essen, Germany), Eileen Scully (Assistant Professor, John Hopkins), Angela Meier (Assistant Professor, UCSD, USA), Marianne Mureithi (Lecturer, University of Nairobi, Kenya), Christina Thobakgale (Lecturer, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa), and Judy Chang (Lecturer, University of Melbourne, Australia).
