Dr. Marisa Márcia Mussi-Pinhata is a prominent Brazilian pediatrician, researcher, and academic leader. She is currently a Full in the Department of Pediatrics at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP), where she also serves as the Vice-Director. She earned her medical degree, master's degree, and doctorate in Pediatrics from FMRP-USP. Dr. Mussi later expanded her academic expertise abroad, completing a post-doctorate in the Department of Immunology and Infection at the University of Miami School of Medicine and studying Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Her scientific career is heavily focused on Maternal-Child Health, with core research emphasis on neonatal care, congenital and perinatal infections (such as cytomegalovirus and HIV), immunity, and infections in infants. She coordinates the Research Center on Maternal, Perinatal, and Child Infection at the Hospital das Clínicas of FMRP-USP. Throughout her career, she has published over 230 papers and book chapters, mentored dozens of master's and doctoral students, and held major administrative roles, including leadership positions within FMRP-USP's human rights, postgraduate, and departmental commissions.
