Biography
Maryanne Ombija, MPH, has worked for more than 20 years supporting youth and HIV programming around the world.
She currently serves as a Senior Technical Advisor for Adult (15+) Care and Treatment at the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator for PEPFAR. She coordinates global guidance updates and interagency collaboration related to quality management systems (SIMS) and continuity of HIV treatment technical discussions. Through PEPFAR, the U.S. government has invested over $90 billion in the global HIV/AIDS response, the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease in history, supporting 17.4 people with living saving ARVs, preventing millions of HIV infections, and accelerating progress toward controlling the global HIV/AIDS epidemic in more than 50 countries.
Prior to this role, she served as an Associate Director for Adolescents and Youth at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). During this time, she strengthened EGPAF’s technical leadership and program support in the areas of HIV treatment programming for over 60,000 adolescents living with HIV, adolescent pregnant women, and HIV prevention for non-infected adolescents and youth.
Maryanne began as a US Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon and after that obtained her MPH from Tulane University. Over her career, she has lived 10 years in Africa working with FHI360, UNESCO, Huru International, and collaborated with many more partners in HIV.
