Biography

Michael (mike) Reid is an infectious diseases physician and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where he co-directs the Center for Applied Public Health within the Institute for Global Health Sciences.

He previously served as Chief Science Officer for the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, helping shape its scientific and implementation agenda across more than 50 countries. His work focuses on translating scientific innovation into effective, equitable public health programs, with particular interests in HIV, implementation science, health systems, and artificial intelligence. He co-chairs the Lancet Global Health Commission on Artificial Intelligence and HIV, which brings together researchers, policymakers, implementers, and community leaders to examine how AI may transform HIV prevention, treatment, surveillance, governance, and financing. He also practices HIV and infectious diseases medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
