In loving memory of Dr. Minh Nguyen, a dedicated researcher and educator whose work in HIV prevention and care touched countless lives.

Biography

Dr. Minh Nguyen was a lecturer at the Department of Epidemiology, Hanoi Medical University. Dr Nguyen graduated from the Hanoi Medical University with a Medical Doctor in 2013. She went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a PhD degree in Health Behavior at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Nguyen’s research focused on the interaction between mental health and substance abuse on the health of people living with HIV, as well as the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and mobile health interventions to improve PrEP use among young men who have sex with men. Dr. Nguyen was also interested in implementation science and methods to improve the implementation of interventions for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment among high-risk groups in real-life settings. Dr Nguyen has received training in implementation sciences as a fellow of the HIV Implementation Science Fellowship, at John Hopkins University and the HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Health Implementation Research Institute (HIGH-IRI) of the Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Nguyen lead a 5-year NIH-funded study titled “Adapting an Evidence-based Intervention to Improve HIV Testing and PrEP Uptake among Young Men who have Sex with Men in Vietnam”(K43TW012850). She also conducted a study funded by the International AIDS Society that aimed to adapt a neutral-status mobile health intervention for both HIV-positive and HIV-negative young men who have sex with men in Vietnam.
