Biography
Prof. Mohamed El-Kassas is an internationally recognized hepatologist with a distinguished track record in clinical research, scholarly publishing, and capacity building. With over 280 peer-reviewed international publications, he has made seminal contributions in the fields of viral hepatitis, MASLD, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver fibrosis. Prof. El-Kassas has led more than 15 nationally and internationally funded research projects as Principal Investigator.
He has supervised over 50 MSc and PhD theses across major Egyptian universities and has served as a core faculty member and mentor in various clinical research and medical education workshops across MENA, and Africa. As Editor-in-Chief of Gastrointestinal Medicine and editorial board member for PLOS ONE, Gene Expression, JCTH, and World Journal of Hepatology, he actively participates in shaping medical literature standards and peer-review excellence.
Notably, he is the Founder and CEO of the Steatotic Liver Disease Study Foundation in MENA (SLMENA), a regional platform promoting multicenter research and guideline development. His collaborative mindset is also reflected in his leadership roles in the Global NASH Council, AHPBCC, and the International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL).
Prof. El-Kassas has been honored with the Egypt State Award for Medical Sciences, the Medal of Excellence (First Class), and the Best Arab Researcher Award in Natural Sciences, underscoring both his academic and societal impact.
