Biography

Dr. Monique J. Brown is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH) at the University of South Carolina. She also serves as the Director of Wellness and Collective Engagement in ASPH. She is a Faculty Affiliate in the SmartState Center for Healthcare Quality, the Office for the Study of Aging, and the Rural Health Research Center; and a Research Fellow in the Centre for Health Systems Research and Development at the University of the Free State in South Africa. Dr. Brown received her Bachelor of Science degree from Bates College, her Master of Public Health degree from the Brown University School of Public Health and her PhD in Epidemiology from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She completed postdoctoral training and was a Research Assistant Professor in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences at the University of South Florida. Dr. Brown’s research focuses on trauma, HIV, and aging, has been continuously funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (2018-present), and has received several awards. She teaches Scientific Writing and Social Epidemiology, and mentors several students and junior faculty, majority of whom are from underrepresented groups.
