Biography

Associate Prof. Opass Putcharoen is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, and Head of the Emerging Infectious Diseases Clinical Center at the Thai Red Cross Society in Bangkok, Thailand.

A leading authority on infectious disease epidemiology and regional health security in Southeast Asia, Dr. Putcharoen has spearheaded critical initiatives in outbreak response, rapid molecular diagnostics, viral surveillance, and clinical microbiology. He serves as an international technical consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) and acts as the Executive Secretary and Scientific Advisor for Thailand’s national clinical guidelines on antiretroviral therapy and diagnostic protocols.

Dr. Putcharoen frequently collaborates with premier global institutions—including the Institut Pasteur—to advance research on pandemic preparedness, pathogen surveillance, and global health policy. In addition to his clinical and policy leadership, he is an active medical educator dedicated to developing training curricula in infection control, clinical therapeutics, and physician leadership across the Asia-Pacific region.
