Biography

With the success of antiretroviral therapy and improved survival of HIV patients, non-AIDS – and especially age-related – complications are becoming the greatest cause of morbidity and mortality. He has conducted analyses of the rates and determinants of non-AIDS complications among people with HIV and the factors associated with increased risk, including the impact of combination antiretroviral therapy. This has included the analyses of 1) risk factors of non-AIDS defining malignancies, in the pre-HAART and HAART era, and the role of antiretroviral exposure and statin therapy; 2) risk factors and predictors of cardiovascular disease including the role of abacavir and lipid-lowering therapy; and the risk factors and complications of weight gain on ART; 3) predictors of bone mineral loss among HIV-infected patients, including the role of antiretroviral therapy and HCV co-infection.

HIV 24/7 | Improving Metabolic Health in PLWHIV – Taking the Next Step!

This self-paced e-learning program explores the critical role of metabolic health in the long-term care of people living with HIV (PLWHIV). Through expert-led modules, it examines key challenges and strategies to improve outcomes, with a particular focus on the impact of visceral fat accumulation. Participants will learn about its pathological consequences, diagnostic complexities, and available treatment options, while also gaining practical insights into the prevalence of metabolic complications and the use of clinical and laboratory assessments. Designed to be both informative and actionable, the program equips clinicians with the knowledge and tools to take the next step in advancing metabolic health for PLWHIV.

What Will Set You Apart?

After following this educational series, participants will:

  • Recognize the burden and clinical consequences of excessive visceral fat in people living with HIV
  • Be informed of evidence-based strategies to diagnose and assess visceral fat in clinical practice
  • Identify current therapeutic options and holistic approaches for the management of metabolic health in PLWHIV

Is This Program for You?

This self-learning educational program is aimed at physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals caring for people living with HIV.

What Will You Cover in This Module?

  • The diseases burden and pathological consequences of visceral fat in PLWHIV
  • Clinical approach to diagnosing excessive visceral fat in PLWHIV
  • Current therapeutic treatment options for PLWHIV with excessive visceral fat
  • Optimal clinical approach to managing excessive visceral fat in PLWHIV
