International Workshop on HIV & Adolescence 2020
3 – 27 November 2020
Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+), South Africa
Saidy Brown is a queer woman born with HIV who learned her status at 14. She uses her voice and digital platforms to educate communities about HIV, challenge stigma, and advocate for inclusive sexual health conversations.
She has worked with various organisations on social media campaigns focused on HIV awareness, prevention, and life beyond diagnosis. Saidy is particularly committed to ensuring that queer women living with HIV are included in HIV conversations.
She also advocates for women and girls to understand their bodies, claim their sexual and reproductive health rights, and access accurate information without shame.
As the founder of HIVictor Media and HIVictor Foundation, Saidy centers storytelling, community engagement, and youth education in her work. She is also an Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity at Tekano, where she continues to advance health justice initiatives.
In addition to HIV advocacy, Saidy is a mental health advocate who speaks openly about navigating life with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Through her story, she works to destigmatize both HIV and mental illness, particularly among queer young people.
Through her work, her voice, and her lived experience, Saidy shows young women and girls that there is life, and purpose after an HIV diagnosis.
