Biography
Talia Sainz, MD, PhD is pediatrician at the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Department of La Paz Children Hospital in Madrid, Spain. She finished her training period in Pediatrics in May 2010 and since then, she has been devoted to research in pediatric HIV infection, funded initially by a Research Fellowship from the European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) and lately by grants from the Spanish Ministry of Health and Innovation. She spent three years at the Laboratory of Immunology, including a research stay at the AIDS Research Institute, San Francisco, California. She is an active member of the Spanish Pediatric AIDS Research Network (CoRISpe), where she is involved in different projects addressing immunopathogenesis of vertically acquired HIV infection, and the Spanish network for Traslational Pediatric Infectious Diseases (RITIP). She is Principal Investigator of a research line including two multicenter studies addressing the role of the microbiome in HIV and TB pathogenesis in children and adolescents, which has obtained consecutive public funding since 2014. She collaborates as a professor at the Penta courses for management of pediatric HIV infection, and the Esther Project that offers training for pediatric HIV management for professionals from resource limited settings. Since 2021, she is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, Autonoma University of Madrid (UAM).
