Biography

Toshibumi Taniguchi, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Chiba University Hospital, Japan. He received his medical degree from Chiba University in 2001 and completed his internal medicine residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, followed by an infectious disease fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases in both the United States and Japan.

Dr. Taniguchi is a leading figure in HIV prevention and treatment research in Japan. He is the author of the national HIV PrEP guidelines and has been instrumental in advancing PrEP implementation across the country. His research focuses on Rapid ART initiation strategies to improve treatment outcomes and reduce transmission. He serves as a Board Member of the Japanese Society for AIDS Research, where he contributes to shaping national HIV policy. Dr. Taniguchi is also actively involved in promoting Doxy-PEP as a novel sexually transmitted infection prevention strategy. Through his clinical practice, policy work, and research, he continues to drive innovation in HIV care and prevention, bridging evidence-based approaches with real-world implementation in the Japanese healthcare system.
