Biography

Dr. Tristan Barber is a Consultant Physician in HIV Medicine at the Ian Charleson Day Centre, Royal Free Hospital, and Honorary Associate Professor at the Institute for Global Health, University College London. His postgraduate training in sexual health and HIV was at the Mortimer Market Centre in London. Tristan worked for several years on HIV vaccine and phase 3 clinical trials at Imperial College London, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, receiving his doctorate from the University of Cambridge in 2019 for work on HIV related neurocognitive impairment. His current clinical and research interests are in new antiretrovirals, implementation science, and ageing and frailty in people with HIV.

Tristan is Honorary Secretary for the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and Chair of the BHIVA Education and Scientific Subcommittee. He is also Chair of the Board of Trustees for the peer support charity Positively UK. He established and leads on a dedicated frailty service for ageing patients with HIV infection (The Sage Clinic). He is an Associate Editor for the BMJ journal ‘STI’ and a Joint Editor for ‘HIV Research and Clinical Practice’. He is passionate about supporting global HIV educational and research programmes and is Chair of the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) Young Investigator Network (YING).
