Overview
Online Meeting Highlights 2019

This online program summarizes the highlights of the 20th International Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of HIV, Hepatitis and other Antiviral Drugs, which took place in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, 14-16 May 2019. It consists of two summary presentations given by Saye Khoo and Jennifer Kiser, and a written editorial by Dr. David Burger.

Needs Assessment

Optimal drug exposure is a key component of successful antiretroviral therapy. Understanding the clinical pharmacology of antiviral therapy is pivotal to designing optimal treatment and prevention strategies. Drug exposure is significantly influenced by patient medication-taking behaviour, drug-drug interactions and individual physiologic and genetic characteristics. These factors are central in determining therapeutic efficacy, failure or toxicity. Despite great progress, many pharmacological challenges still exist. Recently we have seen great advances in the pharmacological characteristics of antiretroviral agents – offering improved care to HIV-infected individuals. The Antiviral Pharmacology Workshop is one of the key forums where challenges and advances in HIV clinical pharmacology are discussed by the world’s top investigators and experts.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this program, you will be able to:

  • Summarize the key data presented and discussed at the antiviral pharmacology workshop
  • Describe how these findings can be translated into clinical practice to optimize routine patient managementTopics addressed in the presentations:
  • Drug-drug interactions
  • Pregnancy, TB, HBV, NASH
  • New drug delivery systems
