Julio Morais

Biography

Julio Morais is a nurse based in the Canary Islands. He studied Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Barcelona (UB) and holds a Master’s degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He has worked at the Drassanes-Vall d’Hebron Infectious Diseases Unit and at BCN-Checkpoint in Barcelona, both reference centers for the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

In addition to his research activities, he works as a Case Manager in the Transgender Care Support Unit and at the Specialized HIV/STI Care Clinic of Hospital Universitario de La Palma. His professional focus is on HIV/STI prevention, particularly through the implementation of PrEP, as well as on the provision of comprehensive care for people living with HIV. He also contributes to advancing the detection and management of phenomena such as Chemsex, promoting early HIV diagnosis in emergency settings, and fostering collaboration between public healthcare services and community-based organizations.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Sexually Transmitted Infections Group (GEITS) of the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC). He is also part of the Group of Expert Nurses in HIV (GEEVIH) and serves as the national lead for the European HIV Nurse Network (EHNN) in Spain.
