Biography

Ms Nondy Bango was born and raised in the Eastern Cape Province in the small town of Middledrift on 25 March 1975. She was raised by a single mother, an experience that shaped her resilience, independence, and strong sense of responsibility. She is a proud mother of one son and completed her formal education up to Matric.

On 5 October 2005, she was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS with a CD4 count of 56 and a Stage 4 related illness, Kaposi’s Sarcoma. She received one dose of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. Her recovery and relief from pain began after starting Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy at the Desmond Tutu Clinic, Hannan Crusaide in Gugulethu. The compassionate care she received restored her health and renewed her sense of purpose.

Motivated by this life-changing experience, Ms Bango developed a strong passion for working in the health and community development sector. Since 2009, she has worked in this field, beginning as a counsellor. Over time, she expanded her skills and experience, growing into a knowledgeable quantitative and qualitative data professional. Her lived experience and professional expertise enable her to contribute meaningfully to research, counselling, and community-focused health initiatives that improve lives and strengthen communities
