Hepatitis B remains a major public health concern, with Western Pacific bearing the highest disease burden. Extensive research on a functional cure, with many investigational therapeutics in the pipeline, opens prospects to eliminate chronic HBV. This is a rapidly evolving field, which needs scientific exchange to critically discuss the latest data, define barriers, and stimulate new concepts. While intensive research efforts on HBV curative treatments are underway in Asia and the Pacific, progress is largely discussed at national programs, whereas no regional platform exists to disseminate data and stimulate collaboration across the region. To this end, we initiated the Asian-Pacific Workshop on HBV Cure to provide a scientific exchange forum for regional scientists and stimulate lasting collaborations across the region.
