Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is estimated to affect 25% of the world’s population. Given the association between NAFLD and the growing global epidemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes, the prevalence of NAFLD is expected to increase.
Despite the high prevalence of NAFLD, there are still barriers in assessing it, as only a minority of cases are diagnosed and correctly treated. Therefore, comprehensive models of care must be designed and implemented. The cascade of care for the diagnosis and treatment of NAFLD requires a multidisciplinary approach among the different health care professionals involved. The development of patient-centric structures and systems will facilitate the coordination and integration of services delivered at different healthcare system levels.
This introductory webinar provided a platform to bring together the relevant stakeholders and patients to optimize NAFLD care. The successful 90-minute program, which took place on 19 January, highlighted the different perspectives that each healthcare professional and patients with NAFLD face daily.
Lastly, the webinar served as an introduction to the new Innovations in NAFLD Care Workshop 2022 commencing from 6-7 May 2022 in Barcelona, Spain, where healthcare providers and policy-makers will be able to implement the most comprehensive models of NAFLD care.
