Living With HIV: Can We Do Better?

Thank you

It is our pleasure to announce that the Living With HIV: Can We Do Better? Symposium took place on the evening of 25 July 2023 prior to IAS 2023. The meeting was held in a hybrid format.

Effective and well-tolerated antiretroviral therapy (ART) has transformed HIV into a manageable lifelong condition. Single tablet regimens with a high rate of efficacy and low toxicity are now in widespread use. Nevertheless, one size does not fit all, and there remain large numbers of people living with HIV (PLWH) who are not receiving, or not maintaining therapy. Although we have come a long way, gaps and challenges in care remain that need addressing with new drugs and regimens. Hearing the community’s voice is a key driver to providing people-centered and context-specific integrated services for PLWH, underscoring the importance of using PROMs in the decision-making, and fostering platforms for discussions among all relevant stakeholders.

To address the remaining gaps, we propose a program that stimulates dialog among healthcare providers, investigators, policymakers, and PLWH. The program will capture the current status of HIV treatment, highlight remaining gaps and challenges for both healthcare providers as well as PLWH, and suggest solutions that are sensitive to diversity among PLWH.
