Biography

Dr. Friday Saidi is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynecologist, holding a Masters in Medicine (Mmed) from the University Of Malawi, College Of Medicine. He contributes significantly to healthcare and academia as a Research Investigator at the University of North Carolina (UNC)'s Global HIV Clinical Trials Unit, UNC Project-Malawi. Additionally, he holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Saidi further serves as a consultant and honorary clinical lecturer in the department of OBGYN at Kamuzu Central Hospital’s maternity unit. Notably, he is the national treasurer of the Association of Obstetrician and Gynecologist of Malawi (AOGM). His expertise has been recognized on a global scale, as he was recently appointed as a member of the FIGO committee on Infections during Pregnancy for the 2023-25 term, underscoring his commitment to advancing maternal and child health.

Dr. Saidi possesses extensive experience in conducting clinical trials within the field of women's health research. His contributions are well-documented through several published manuscripts,. His notable expertise lies in HIV prevention among pregnant and breastfeeding populations, where he serves as the Pregnancy and Infant Sub-study Advisor for the HPTN 084 Open Label Extension (OLE) study. He is a leading investigator for a trial evaluating the safety of long acting injectable Cabotegravir (CAB-LA) for HIV prevention among pregnant women and their infants and is a key member of the Malawi Ministry of Health CAB-LA Expert Committee.
