Abigail Solomons holds a BA degree in Languages and Culture from the University of Stellenbosch. Her passion for discourse analysis, working with groups most marginalised, and exploring the drivers of intercultural miscommunication has enabled her to delve into human rights responses that aim to address the root causes of othering of sexual and gender minorities in Namibia.
Abigail has been a programmes manager at Positive Vibes Trust, a human rights focused organisation working with groups most marginalised, for 5 years. As PM, she works with LGBT, Sex worker and feminist led and focused organisations on capacity enhancement initiatives, generating evidence, and the utilisation of evidence to inform legal, policy and practice reform to advance the rights of sexual and gender minorities in Namibia. She has led several research initiatives, including studies focused on the HIV prevention and treatment needs of men who have sex with men and their partners; human rights violation as experienced by sexual and gender minorities study; and the SOGIE literacy skills of Life Skills teachers in Namibia. The development and implementation of strategies that enable human capital to realise their true potential and become agents of change, has also been central to her program management portfolio. Abigail is currently part the National Strategic Framework (2017/18 to 2021/22) mid-term review steering committee, is leading the review of the National Human Rights Action Plan response to sexual and gender minorities within Positive Vibes, as well as assessing the situation for sexual and gender minority adolescents and young people in Namibia.
