Alex Sparrowhawk

Biography

Alex Sparrowhawk was diagnosed with HIV in 2009 and has been involved in the HIV sector for several years. Alex has always been passionate about meaningfully involving people with HIV in their treatment and care, as well as the services they access within the HIV sector.

Alex took over the role of Chair of the UK Community Advisory Board (UK-CAB) in January 2019. Within this time, they have helped secure access to long-acting injectable HIV treatment across the UK, provided input into national guidance, most recently the British HIV Association’s HIV and the Law position statement, and supported people with HIV to be represented across national bodies and systems.

Alex joined the UK’s largest HIV and sexual health charity, Terrence Higgins Trust in 2015, initially working in their Policy team before moving to work in Health Improvement, primarily on the national HIV prevention programme for England.

As Patient and Public Involvement Lead within NICHE (a five year programme of research aiming to improve mental and physical health among people living with HIV by evaluating a new model of care), Alex is passionate about ensuring the voices of people with HIV are heard within the study outcomes.
