Alexander Bernal

Biography

Alexander Bernal, also known as Mx. Alex, is a 19-year-old youth advocate on ASRHR. Alex started their advocacy work during the 4th National Young People’s Planning Forum (NYPPF) on HIV and AIDS organized by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) and supported by UNICEF Philippines. The aim was to create safe spaces for children, adolescents, and young people to participate in action to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country. Alex’s journey as a youth advocate continued when they became one of the trained TeenGen Leaders for Y-PEER Philippines, supported by YouthLEAD Asia Pacific last July 2018. They also completed the Asia-Pacific Regional Adolescent and Youth SRHR E-Course 3.0 last June 2021.

Alex is an active community organizer and youth volunteer peer educator in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with the indigenous communities through peer-to-peer approach in schools and community-based organizations. They also joined many panel discussions and meetings related to HIV/AIDS and SRHR in the context of Young Key Populations.

At present, Alex’s organization – ‘Youth for YOUth' is one of the youth-led organization’s partners of the Philippine Dental Association – Abra Chapter in promoting Proper Hygiene and Oral Health to the Indigenous children in the Province of Abra.

Currently, Alex is serving as the founder and President of the Youth for YOUth Organization in the Abra province, and an intern of the Y-PEER Asia Pacific Center
