Alia Hadefi obtained her Master in Medicine from the Université Libre De Bruxelles (ULB) in 2012 with honors. She completed her fellowship in Gastroenterology in 2018, having already initiated her research in the field on liver-gut crosstalk and metabolic endoscopy. She is currently completing her PhD thesis on this subject. Her main focus is the impact of bariatric endoscopic procedures on fatty liver disease. She is the leading author of two evidence-based guidelines initiated by the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) on bariatric endoscopy. She is also the primary investigator of an international multicentric randomized controlled trial on the effect of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty on fatty liver disease initiated in 2020 and the receipt of the Fonds Erasme Grant 2023. She is currently involved in the UEG as part of the Young Talent Group, and she is member of the UEG Scientific Committee since 2021.
