Amanda Willig, PhD, RD

Biography

Dr. Amanda (Mandy) Willig is an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), with a secondary appointment in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences. She also serves on the Executive Committee and the Research Coordinating Committee for the Center for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS).

Dr. Willig pursued her undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and minor in Business Administration at Louisiana Tech University. She then completed her dietetic internship and Master’s degree in Nutrition at Virginia Tech University. Dr. Willig earned her PhD in Nutrition Sciences with secondary training in Biostatistics at the UAB.

Her interdisciplinary research funded by the National Institutes of Health focuses on nutrition and physical activity solutions to promote healthy aging in adults with HIV. She also investigates technology-based interventions for chronic disease management. As a registered dietitian, Dr. Willig maintains a clinical outpatient practice at the UAB 1917 HIV Clinic, where she also coordinates the Clinic’s food assistance and nutrition education programs with partnering AIDS Service Organizations.
