Dr Amy Ward graduated with an MBBCH from The University of the Witwatersrand in 2009. The majority of her career to date has been dedicated to working in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, in the field of Infectious Diseases on both the clinical and research fronts. This experience fuelled her passion for community based interventions and engagement with the aim to improve the well-being of South Africans.
She has lead several clinical trials in the prevention of infectious diseases as PI and heads up a clinical research team of approximately 20 individuals based in Khayelitsha. Under her leadership the team has gained a reputation for delivering excellent clinical care and producing high quality clinical trial data.
In 2023 Dr Ward and team launched a new Khayelitsha-based clinical research facility and wellness initiative, Vuka, with the vision to improve community knowledge and access to wellness services.
